Homosexuality In Methodism: Apostasy vs. Antichrist

The once stalwart denominations of the times is experiencing a falling back from the faith.

The female Methodist pastor announces her “coming out.”

But before we discuss this insidious act, notice what Hebrews 10:35-39 says.

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
“For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”

In WOF (Word of Faith) circles, a serious misinterpretation is preached and taught. I’ve taught it too until the Lord showed me what it was really all about.

This passage, as with the entire book of Hebrews has nothing to do with believing God about things or material possessions. From the beginning chapter to the end, we see that it was about the great challenge to stay faithful to Christ no matter how many abusive doctrines and persecution comes.

The prosperity gospel is another gospel for which if anyone preaches another gospel, they are accursed (see Galatians 1:6-10).

The purist form of the gospel is always centralized around the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Paul said it powerfully. “Christ, and Him crucified.”

Jesus was crucified for our sins and arose on the third day for our justification.

Even though we are guilty of sin, because we’ve repented, and placed our faith in Jesus alone for salvation, we are made the righteousness of God in Christ. Guilty, but by HIs grace, and sacrifice, we are innocent.

But there are many preachers that will completely ignore contextual teaching to preach their “pet” doctrine. Their emotions got the best of them and they will defend their indefensible position to the death.

Now look at Hebrews 10 again. Note that it’s about a drawing back.

These believers were persecuted to such an extent that they were willing to walk away from the Lord.

People will either walk away from Jesus because they love sin more than their Lord or because they were either coerced or persecuted for their faith.

In the case of a Methodist female pastor, she decided that it would be the time to announce her homosexual relationship. She loved her sin more than the Savior.

Five things could be at play here.

  1. Apostasy (2 Thessalonians 2:3).
  2. Sin (Luke 8:11-14).
  3. Coercion from persecution (Hebrews 10:35-39).
  4. Tares (Jude verse 4, Matthew 13:24-30).
  5. Antichrist (1 John 2:18-19).

These five things could operate in combinations as well.

While we do not know everything, preponderance suggests that she was in this relationship for quite some time. She was probably wrestling with keeping her Secret Sexual Sins a secret and “minister,” or tell her church members.

She finally elected to tell her church members.

She probably felt relieved.

The high leadership had already sent notice that it goes against traditional church teaching and of course, the Bible. But sinners do not care. The lust in their hearts is strong and it’s a clear example of Romans 1:18.

If she were a believer, then this is apostasy. If she were never a believer, then it is unregenerate sinning. If she was a plant of the devil, then this is tares among wheat. And if she were an antichrist, well, we need not go any further.

In WOF circles, being an antichrist is defined as being anti anointing.

That’s an incorrect definition.

Even if you are able to perform miracles in His name, Matthew 7:21-23 is evident.

To be an antichrist, it’s about the holy character of Jesus. It’s not about the power of God operating in people according to 1 Corinthians 12. It is about the holy nature of Jesus to abstain from sin and live holy by obeying the commandments of the Lord Jesus.

You are not going to be persecuted for power. You will be persecuted for walking like Jesus.

If this pastor were a believer, she walked away from walking like Jesus to live in sin.

Preachers are not to be known by how well they preach but by how well they live what Jesus preached.

To conclude, we see that sin has their hearts, their minds, and their bodies.

This is not the last story. This is a story among many others that will be played out before our eyes. Many are praying for a Great Awakening to happen in the United States.

Here is the “Great Awakening.”

Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
