The perverseness of the world is increasing. From house to house and church to church.
Peter warned us of these days.
1 Peter 3:1-4 says “Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets,
and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying,
“Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
What does this have to do with sexual satisfaction?
There was a time when a generation of people walked in the righteousness of God to maintain their relationship with the Lord. Today, with church attendance declining, it appears that the people that would have held out before sinning sexually are now dropping like flies.
There was a time that holding out for sex between one man and one woman in marriage was a badge of honor. Some call it “chastity.”
It was primarily called holiness unto the Lord.
The people what professed faith in the Lord Jesus prided themselves to walk faithfully in the Lord in obedience to His Word.
We are seeing a serious departure from the discipline of the faith to engage in sexual immorality.
Listen to what Peter said, “…scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts….”
Scoffers are mockers. Notice when they will come. “…in the last days….”
When the Lord Jesus returned to heaven, His ministry marked the beginning of the last days.
Notice what the writer of Hebrews said.
Hebrews 1:1-3 says, “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…”
The Lord Jesus spoke of what we need to expect to confirm that these are the last days.
Jesus said in Luke 17:26-30, “And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.”
What happened during the times of Noah and Lot?
In Genesis 6:5, the days of Noah were described when “…the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
In Genesis 13:13, the days of Lot were described. “But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.”
During the incident when the angels came to rescue Lot, the men in the city came out and wanted to have sex with the angels. While it is possible that they didn’t know that they were angels, it is clear that the men in the city wanted to have MSM with the two male looking angels. There is no misinterpretation or misunderstanding of the wicked intent of the men in that city.
So when we see the Lord Jesus speak about the days of Noah and Lot, there is no question about the intent of sexual immorality that is pervasive in the current times we are living in. But note also that Jesus said, “in the days of the Son of Man.”
What are the days of the Son of Man?
Remember 2014 years ago, Jesus was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father? Over two thousand years ago, Jesus was risen from the dead. As long as Jesus tarries, that is, not return yet to the earth in His Second Coming, these are the days of the Son of Man.
Then the Bible describes to us what will be done in the last days.
Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:1 “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self- control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
Paul also said in Romans 1:28-32 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil- mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”
If you’ve noticed, the combination of the words “last days” and the activities that would take place during the last days is in plain view for all to see.
Now that we’ve satisfactorily identified the fact that we are living in the last days, Peter gives us these words……
“and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
The Lord Jesus gave us these words in Luke 12:43-46 “Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming, ’and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.”
You see the analogy?
Instead of being found as a diligent person, working out your own salvation with fear and trembling, people lose the discipline as a disciple and live like the world.
When you are impatient, you will make regrettable decisions.
In many cases, it will cost you your salvation if you were once saved.
There are many impatient believers. With the coming of the Lord that can occur at anytime, because they do not hold out, they entertain thoughts of returning to sexual immorality. These believers entertain thoughts to commit the sin they’ve been meditating on for quite some time.
They find themselves accepting arguments and reasonings that is inconsistent with the Word of God.
In one breath, they tell you that they are a child of God. In the next breath, they tell you that they will defy the Lord and His Word.
There is no question in my mind that this is the age of apostasy as spoke of by Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4.
I said all that to say this about the Southern Baptists that is forced to deal with the onslaught of the sin of homosexuality banging on the door. A church has defected because a pastor was struggling with making a decision to include or exclude homosexuals from his church. At that moment, his son told him that he was “gay.”
