Lurking in the waters of this election year are the sharks of perversion. What’s at stake is not just the presidential election. It appears the house will remain in Republican hands and the Senate appears to remain the same, under Democratic control. What does this mean?
Anticipate more gridlock no matter which way the presidential election goes.
Hypothetically, if the Governor Romney wins the White House, will they turn the clock back on DADT? Will good order and discipline return and discharge practicing homosexuals? I do not expect this to happen. Will he enforce DOMA? The jury is out on this as well.
The issues of the economy is at the forefront but we cannot escape the moral issues of our times. Should President Obama get a second term, there is no question that in the first two years of his second term, more legislative enactments to further entrench immorality in this nation will proceed.
There is no question that the church is in a compromised position. With sexual immorality running unabated in the lives of church leaders and people, the United States is closer to achieving its goal of silencing the church. The power of politics is fearful of the righteous moral stand of believers. But there must be a solid voice or voices that must unequivocally declare what is sin.
We do have a voice or voices that shared their concerns about marriage between one man and one woman.
All across the United States, pastors, bishops, and other members of the clergy have stood their ground to advocate marriage and to stand against the revision of marriage between two males and two females. Some have used the Bible and it’s specified verses, and some have not.
When there is just a statement of fact about the precedence of marriage as ordained by God, the Bible must be quoted. Do not misunderstand me. Some have used the Bible and the standard must continued be shared.
But just in case some of you that are preachers have forgotten, here is a quick refresher course.
The Bible is the infallible Word of God. The Bible is incapable of error and mistakes as far as the context is concerned. The Bible is man’s basic instruction while living on earth. There is no other source equivalent to the Word of God.
It is in the Word of God that we understand God. It is in the Word of God that we understand God’s creation of man in His divine image. It is in the Word of God that we understand the fall of man and God’s love for man to demonstrate His love by sending His Son to die for the sins of man. It is in the Word of God that we understand that evil comes from the devil and that the devil hates God and everything He is.
It is in the Word of God that we understand that because of the fall of man, fallen man is now an expression of evil. It is in the Word of God that we understand man’s need to be saved from sin. It is in the Word of God that we understand why perversion is expressed in fallen man.
Without making these kinds of statements from the Word of God, we will fail at pointing man back to God because it is not enough to advocate marriage between one man and one woman. We must use the Bible to point out that when man wants to have sex with another man, it is perversion. We must use the Bible to point out that when a woman wants to have sex with another woman, it is perversion.
God called it “an abomination.”
We must not forget that adultery, fornication, pornography (children and adult), masturbation, pedophilia, and bisexuality are all attached to perversion. These sins go under the radar and we must reckon with the fact that all these sins are destructive to the true family nucleus as originally intended by God. Anything that counters husband, wife, and children born in wedlock, is a clear and present danger to the family structure. The deliberate, intentional act of sexual sins is a clear and present danger to society and pastors must address these issues from a Biblical perspective as well as by living as holy examples before the church and the world.
We cannot expect people to abstain from fornication if we are committing adultery with our eyes, hearts, minds, and bodies.
Just because people fail the standard, it doesn’t mean that the standard has failed. We must live by what we preach or not preach at all.
What does this have to do with the election?
There was once a moral conscience in some politicians. Just like in the world and sadly, in the church, there is crooked people, but it’s the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ that brings fear in the hearts of people, regardless of their background. The political system is no longer as fearful of men and women of God that lived and preached the Word of God.
In many political circles, pastors are found eating their dainties and drinking their wine (see Proverbs 23:1-3). I’ve read almost article after article and in one of them, in Charisma magazine, I read of preachers going to meet with these politicians. And when they emerge, there was no real vehemence of the sins that roar across their communities. They have a press conference afterwards or are interviewed and these preachers say things that make you wonder what really went on in their meeting.
“Oh, he (the politician) isn’t that bad a guy.”
“We disagree on some issues, but we had a nice meeting about the issues we agree most on.”
When there is an assignment from God, the gravity of the assignment is what must be at the forefront. When you are given an opportunity to deliver what “Thus says the Lord,” or even if there is no direct Word from God to deliver, if you have an opportunity to sit with a politician, and the Word of God within you starts to burn, it is clear that you might want not to eat and drink their dainties.
What will happen after these elections is this.
God will be opening up the hearts of politicians to hear from the clergy like never before. It is in these times and places that unprecedented access will be given. You preachers will be given a specific Word from the Lord. Others of you will receive a Word from the Lord at the moment you walk through their places where you will meet them. Some of you will waver. Others will not.
It will not be a moment where you will curse them or be mean to them. You are just a mouth piece by which the truth of the counsel of the Lord will come through.
In a nut shell, politicians are lobbied by LGBT and other groups. Politicians are lobbied by groups of people that hold the “purse strings” of political agendas. But the Lord will speak to them in an unprecedented manner. The outcome of many lives is at stake. The lives affected by the decisions made by politicians is firmly before the Lord. Preachers must not flinch when given the opportunity. Just like Joseph was sent to save the nation of Israel, preachers will be given the same opportunity to affect change and perhaps, save whole communities from the destructive policies of lobby groups that have the ear of politicians by way of money.
Should these politicians fail to give unprecedented access to meet with preachers, their fate is sealed. Should the preachers that receive the invitation of unprecedented access fail to fulfill their assignment, their fate is sealed. We must also remember that certain preachers were given access and delivered the Word of the Lord but they were ignored, passed over, or isolated.
You must also remember not to be upset if the candidate you voted for didn’t get elected. It is common for people to get upset when they see the political landscape remain the same. But know this. Man cannot vote God off the throne. Man did not vote Jesus as Lord, and they cannot vote Him out of His Lordship. You can’t vote Jesus in and you cannot vote Jesus out. He remains Lord regardless of what happens in politics.
Always look to the Lord to keep you, and look not to the arm of flesh (see Jeremiah 17:5-10 and Psalm 33).
