The Gospel or Gimmicks?

The moral decline of a nation has it’s roots in the moral decline of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ (see Proverbs 14:34).

There was a time in the church that people would be unashamed to tell folks of their eternal destiny should they die in a Christ-less grave.

My, have times changed.

Our prominent preachers on Daystar, The Word Network, TBN, and other broadcast venues are too preoccupied with pulling more money out of the pockets of saints across the United States and the world to be concerned about souls.

Covetousness is the doctrine of the church in this hour according to 1 Timothy 6:3-10.

Do not get me wrong, at the end of most of their broadcasts, they do give an “invitation” but is it effective?

Only the Holy Spirit will know.

Almost every broadcast, you see them or their spokesperson asking you to buy books, cd series, and other “Christian” paraphernalia to raise money.

For what?

The claim is to “preach the gospel throughout the world.”

While some of these ministries are involved in international missionary work, the backdoor is left wide open.

What are we really getting out of these conferences?

We go from conference to conference, praise and worship concert to concert. And we do not care to ask someone to come and be in the presence of God. Let alone, having an altar call at these conferences or concerts.

It has gotten to the point that all we care about is the Grammy and other worldly awards. Just remember, you got your reward. Do not look for Jesus to give you one according to 1 Corinthians 3:9-15 and 9:24-27.

Do not get me wrong. There are conferences and concerts that do give an altar call but there are others that do not. Some of them believe that it is wrong to “intrude.”

Excuse me?

Jesus died for the sins of the world to save us from hell and we do not what to “intrude?”

Are you kidding me?

Then the sin that takes place after these conferences and concerts would make the world blush. Sexual immorality and pederasty taking place in the hotels after being in the “presence of the Lord.”

Falling prostrate before the presence of the Lord in prayer with fasting in one of these conferences or musical conferences, is something left to be desired.

Are we really on fire for God in the United States? What is really happening in our prayer meetings? And what is the results in the communities the Lord assigned us to minister to? Are we a church purporting community services, “faith based” ministry, or are we changing lives by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Have we become so disconnected from our Lord that we allow the world to dictate what the church is supposed to be doing? Are we just a convenience store or are we the blood bought church of the Lord Jesus?

Are we being silenced by the local governments so we could receive government money for our silence?

Talk about separation of church and state.

The government wants you to take their money but you can’t talk about sin when you need to. Hence, our silence is their permission.

Pastors that compromise the gospel of Jesus Christ will have to answer to the Head of the Church. Children of God that compromise will have to answer to the Head of Church.

No one escapes according to Luke 12:42-48.

Are we being persecuted like the early church for taking a stand against the moral decline of our communities? Are we feeling the heat or are we too comfortable in our air conditioned sanctuaries to make a difference for Jesus? Are you willing to leave it to “other” churches to be a witness or are you willing to take a risk and do something extraordinary for Jesus?

Jesus did something extraordinary for you over 2000 years ago. What will the final chapters of the book of Acts speak of you, your ministry, and your church? Are you chasing after gimmicks or are you preaching the gospel?

We are seeing church growth decline. The answers simple. The believers are too preoccupied with the “cares, riches, and pleasures of life” to be concerned about a person’s eternal destiny, let alone, their own. Our churches are emptying. Few to no births are taking place in the house to offset the decline of attendance according to 1 Timothy 4:1-2 and 2 Timothy 4:3-4.

We are substituting the gospel of Jesus Christ with gimmicks. We are not challenging people to live holy before the Lord. We are no longer concern about sharing Christ after we preach a message of salvation. We are no longer concerned about discipling them to live like Jesus lived on the earth.

There was a YouTube video of a man dying of cancer. He shared about the eternal bliss of heaven that he had a glimpse of. But suddenly, he talked about the most horrible place that unsaved people are destined for.

He said that it was a place that you should avoid. He said that it was horrible. You do not want to go there.

Obviously, he made Jesus Lord before and was warning people of the horrors of hell. His daughter had the wisdom to capture on tape what he experienced.

Just a few hours later, he passed into eternity to be with the Lord forever. Glory to God!

But as he passed away, think about the many individuals that passed away on that same day, in that same hour. Think about the many people that entered into eternity, expecting to go up to glory, only to feel the pull of gravity, the flames intensifying, passing through the gates of hell, never to escape. They forfeited their chance to repent by choice to never receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.

All who pass through there must abandon all hope. Their only break from the torment will be the Great White Throne Judgment. Then it’s the lake of fire.

On National Geographic, a man was a tour guide for volcanoes. They came across one that was spewing molten lava. The only one of its kind in the world. It literally looked like a lake of fire. Viewing this presentation took place after I viewed the YouTube video and I couldn’t help but to firmly come to grips with the fact that once you pass through, there is no hope.

Imagine burning, but living. Burning, but never dying. Never ending burning that will never cease forever.

Carlton Pearson, who I believe is an apostate preacher, asked a question. Why would a loving God throw men and women into hell? The answer is simple.

While hell was made for the devil and his angels (see Matthew 25:41), sin and death must be placed there as well (see Revelation 20:14-15). When the Lord God sent Jesus to die for the sins of the world, we have an opportunity to accept the terms of salvation, through the life, death, physical burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus to avoid hell.

When man willingly refuses the gift of God, eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, the wages of sin is death. God is a holy God and sin cannot abide in His presence. Sin is rebellion. Sin is opposed to God. Sin is inconsistent with the nature and character of God. Therefore, we are given a choice. To live or to die. To be with the Lord or be separated from the Lord forever.

This is the true purpose that is to drive the church. To preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The good news that we do not have to die and go to hell.

Think about the thousands of people that refused to accept Jesus as Lord in that same hour. Their eternal fate is sealed forever.

On this side of eternity, you have one life to live. Each day the sands of the hour glass drop. Your time is coming too.

You see, the church is headed in the wrong direction because we do not preach the gospel like we should. The gospel of Jesus Christ is about redeeming mankind from sin. The church is caught up in covetous activities.

Our leaders are preaching a different gospel. A social, self help gospel. Apostate preachers are preaching an “inclusive” gospel.

We are wondering if the economy is ever going to get back on track so we can have “Rag Time” all over again.

When will the “Good Times” roll? When will we be able to live again like we used to? Sorry to let you in a little secret. But you will never see the days of the last decade ever again. Remember, we are living in the last of the last days. These are perilous times according to 2 Timothy 3:1-9.

But it doesn’t matter now to the carnal Christians and preachers living in sin or refusing to preach the gospel to win souls. Their empire matters more than the kingdom of God. The preachers of prominence are out there and almost every preacher is preaching what they are preaching. Souls be condemned.

After reading an article about Robert Sculler’s children taking control of the Crystal Cathedral to set it back on the righteous intent of His church, I began to take stock of what Prevailing Word Ministries is doing.

Are we effectively preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ? Are souls being won to the Lord? Are people getting born again through our ministry? After all, the church is here for one purpose only.

The church is built on one statement. Peter said in Matthew’s gospel, chapter 18 and verse 16,

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Pastor, child of God, if you and your church is doing everything else but reaching the lost, it is a purposeless, Christ-less agenda and you will answer to the Head of the Church for it. Pastor, child of God, in your church, there will be 6 out of 7 reasons why your church is ineffective according to Revelation chapters 2 and 3.

Which one or more is the reason your church is ineffective?

In this hour, it is time to give up the gimmicks and preach the uncompromising gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. A dying sinner awaits your message of good news.

Author: The Minister's Crucible

The Minister's Crucible is designed to inform the Body of Christ about the inner workings of the ministry. The word Crucible from Latin, is "crux" where we get the word "cross" from. It also means a "metal container" where metals and other substances are melted or are subjected to higher temperatures, put to the temperature test. The Lord Jesus said "If any man desires to follow after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me." Let's take up our cross and follow Him.
